Electra Bicycle was founded in California in 1993 by Benno Bänziger and today presents an unbeatable variety of bicycle bells with unique designs.

Being Swiss, Bänziger grew up in the Swiss Embassy in West Berlin and was interested in California and action sports. As a teenager he started designing and manufacturing snowboards in Germany. He later moved to California after graduating in graphic design. He founded Projekt Design in 1990 and has worked for companies such as K2 and Adidas. Bänziger considered manufacturing snowboards or skateboards, but felt that those markets were crowded with competitors and seemed like poor choices for a beginning manufacturer. He turned his attention to bicycles.

Bänziger told the San Diego Union-Tribune, "When I looked at cycling in the United States, I realized it was all some kind of sport, but very few people used bikes for fun or for transportation. I wanted them to imagined having a bike in their life as opposed to being a cyclist."

The Electra bicycle bells and bells express this motto in life: having fun with your bike and having fun adding something special to your bike, often with a tongue-in-cheek statement.
